June 4th is Hug Your Cat Day! Of course, Fluffy may insist that every day should be Hug Your Cat Day … and she wouldn’t be wrong! We’re happy to celebrate this one! Here, an Eau Claire, WI vet lists some reasons to purrtake in this special occasion.
Cute Communicators
Did you know that kitties rarely meow at each other? Fluffy communicates with other cats using facial expressions, body language, and occasionally, violence. She only talks to her humans … usually to demand her third breakfast or give us an earful about the dog across the street. That lovable, cajoling meow is definitely one of Fluffy’s cutest charms!
Purrfect Pets
It’s no mystery why cats are such popular pets. They’re very self-sufficient! Fluffy spends most of her time sleeping, and doesn’t need to be bathed, walked, or trained. She also makes a great cuddle buddy, and just fills our homes with love, laughter, and, of course, fur.
Mousing Skills
Our feline pals’ hunting skills were a big part of the reason we domesticated them in the first place. (Fluffy probably just walked into someone’s cave, dropped a dead mouse on the floor, and curled up by the fire, but that’s another topic.) Of course, modern cat owners may not be as impressed or grateful for that mousing prowess as our ancestors were. However, we can at least agree that watching kitties playfully pouncing on catnip mice is highly entertaining, at the very least.
Napping Buddy
Have you ever noticed that even looking at a napping cat is kind of relaxing? Fluffy can spend a whopping 20 hours a day snoozing. No wonder purring kitties make such great sleep aids! She’ll even adjust her napping schedule so she can snuggle up with you in bed.
Comedic Value
Fluffy may very well be worth her weight in gold when it comes to comedic relief. Cats have a special way of making us giggle with their silly antics. If laughter truly is the best medicine, then kitties may be even more precious than we thought.
Purrs
Many kitties are very loving and emotional. Fluffy gets quite attached to her humans. You may find that she starts purring as soon as you pick her up. That’s definitely something to celebrate!
