Cuddly Kitten Day

There’s a pretty cute pet holiday coming up. March 23rd is Cuddly Kitten Day! While any day is a great day for cuddling kittens, we definitely recommend showing Fluffy some extra attention on this special occasion. An Eau Claire, WI vet lists some do’s and don’ts of cuddling your feline friend in this article.

Make It A Daily Thing

Keeping that little motor going is very important! In order for your furry buddy to continue functioning properly, you’ll need to pay attention to her every day. Try to spend at least 10 minutes a day cuddling your cat

Timing

Your feline pal may want attention when you are busy, and then ignore you when you’re just relaxing. This is normal. This is how cats have been programmed. Just go with it!

Cats That Don’t Want Cuddles

Keep in mind that some cats just don’t care to be cuddled. Fluffy may not like being petted or held, but that doesn’t mean she doesn’t love you. She may just prefer that you pay attention to her by talking to her, playing with her, or just hanging out with her. That’s purrfectly fine! Never try to force cuddle time on your furry friend.

Ending Cuddle Time

One of the most important rules of cuddling cats? Fluffy will decide when cuddle time is over.  When your pet decides she’s done, she’s done. Don’t try to change her mind. That may get you scratched!

Support Fluffy Properly

Always take care to hold your kitty properly. Make sure that her weight is supported by her legs or rump. Your feline buddy may try to wrap herself around your neck, or put her paws on your shoulder. That’s fine! Just don’t hold her around her middle. This can actually cause internal injuries.

Relax

Purring kitties can be very relaxing! Cuddling Fluffy can lower your blood pressure, help you deal with stress and anxiety, and help you sleep better. In fact, when you cuddle your furry friend, a special hormone is released in both of you. This hormone, Oxytocin, is called the Love Hormone or the Cuddle Hormone. It’s associated with feeling loved and safe, and is released when people cuddle either their loved ones or their pets.
