Cute Ways to Keep Your Cat Happy

September is Happy Cat Month! Of course, we think kitties deserve to be happy all year. After all, they do have a special way of brightening up our lives with their cute antics and loving purrs. What does it take to keep Fluffy’s motor going? An Eau Claire, WI vet offers some suggestions below.

Toys

Cats are very playful by nature. Actually, Fluffy’s love for pouncing and jumping are natural instincts. Your cute little pet is a predator at heart! Keep your kitty active and entertained by offering her lots of toys and playing with her regularly.

Beds

Kitties are very, very tired. Fluffy can sleep up to 20 hours a day! Make sure she has lots of comfy beds and napping spots.

Window Seats

We recommend keeping cats indoors: they’re both safe and healthier inside! However, Fluffy will enjoy watching birds and squirrels. Offer her a comfy window seat with a good view. If possible, put a birdfeeder up where she can see it.

Catnip

Kitties are extra cute when they’re feeling the effects of catnip. Give your furball some fresh ‘nip on occasion. If Fluffy doesn’t like catnip, offer her some honeysuckle instead. For some reason, many cats that don’t like catnip love honeysuckle.

Boxes

If there’s one thing that all of our feline patients have in common, it’s a love of boxes. It’s safe to say that Fluffy will appreciate the occasional empty box and/or paper grocery bag.

Veterinary Care

We do all we can to make appointments easy on our patients. In fact, we’re going Fear Free, which means we really put a lot of emphasis on this. That said, Fluffy would still literally scratch this one off the list if she could, and then ignore you for the rest of the day. We get it: most of our feline patients would rather take a nap than come see us. Regardless of her opinion on the matter, your kitty will be healthier—and therefore happier—with proper care.

Cuddles

Cats are actually very emotional, and form quite strong bonds with their humans. Fluffy will be happiest if she feels loved and safe. Pay lots of attention to your kitty, and just spend time with her. Talk to her, pet her, and offer treats and snuggles.
