And Meow, A Word About Fluffy’s Cat Tower

Does your feline buddy have a cat tower to climb? If so, that’s great. Cats love to survey their kingdoms and servants (that would be you) from high vantage points! Towers also provide Fluffy with a jungle gym, nail care station, and napping spot. Read on as a local Eau Claire, WI vet offers some tips on your kitty’s tower.

Choosing The Tower

There are a few things to keep in mind when picking a tower. If you have a kitten, get something with a lot of toys and entertainment features that will entertain your frisky pet. If your feline pal is on the shy side, opt for something with enclosed spaces she can hide in. Senior cats, however, will likely appreciate something that’s easy to get on and off, and offers lots of comfy napping spots.

DIY Options

One thing we can say about cats: they don’t necessarily have expensive taste. Fluffy will be purrfectly thrilled with a homemade tower. You can easily turn an old stepladder into a kitty tower. Start by adding smooth planks to the steps to widen them out. Then, cover it in carpet or sisal rope. Done! You can also make something out of lumber, PVC pipe, or, if you’re feeling really adventurous, actual tree branches.

Placement

Picking the right spot for Fluffy’s tower is also important. If possible, put it in front of a window with a good view. This will allow your furry little voyeur to combine her favorite things: napping, sunbathing, and spying on local wildlife. (Tip: for extra purrs, put a bird feeder up where your cat can see it.)

Multiple Kitties

Do you have more than one kitty? If so, pick a tower that will fit all of your feline friends at once. Otherwise, your pets may fight over who gets to use it!

Refreshing A Tower

Has Fluffy stopped using her tower? If so, try cleaning it. If the covering has seen better days, you may want to try recovering it. Another option is to move it to a new spot. Sometimes cats just get so used to things they sort of forget about them. Putting toys and catnip around the tower may also pique your pet’s interest.
